Dennis Dunn is a highly experienced archer and talks about compound bows. "By the time the compound bow was invented in the early 70's I had taken six of the seven junta bowl big game species in my home state of Washington. This was with a recurve or longbow and about a dozen years ago I went back to my roots and haven't hunted with anything but that since. In the interim, once the compound bow was introduced, I got seduced like so many people by the attractions and advantages of the compound, the faster arrow speed, flatter trajectory, the fact that the let off allows you to hold 25 to 30 pounds on your fingertips after you pulled through 65 or 75 so there are a lot of advantages to compounds but there are also some disadvantages. I have written about those in my book. I once missed a monster Boone and Crockett quality Alaskan moose because I had a compound in my hand instead of a recurve or a longbow. I could have gotten the shot off with the traditional bow but didn't have time to get the shot off with the compound.
