Hog Fish

Eddie is quite the outdoorsman. Rifle and bow hunter, fisherman and spear fisherman. I am from Key West Florida. I have been in the water since I was 6 years old. I started spearing fish and free diving since I was about 9. I have never stopped. This year fishing, which is basically bow hunting, but under water. What kinds of fish do you get? It is selective fishing. You see what you want and you go after it. It's not like fishing with a rod and reel that you cast out and whatever bites is what you catch. The best fish to me is called a hog fish. It is a rasp and the meat is coconut white when you cook it. You don't even catch that fish on hook and line. It is a fish that doesn't bite hook and line. Every once in a while you can catch them if you are using a crustacean Like shrimp or crab because that is the kind of food that they like to eat. But for the most part, they are not a hook and line fish. They are strictly a spear fishing fish. So you get a hog fish at the end of your spear and there has to be blood. Do you ever worry about sharks? No. We all know they are there. It is not something you think about or worry about. If one comes, that is their domain, if they come in and look like they are aggressive, I will get out and I will move.
