Saving Salmon

Community leaders from across the Treasure Valley recently attended a joint Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Caldwell and listened closely to officials involved with Idaho Power's complex in Hells Canyon. Something that came up related to conservation issues. One of the things we have been working on is our Snake River stewardship program. We've been working on sedimentation projects, limiting some of the sedimentation that goes into the river. Also stream and river shading projects to try and cool the river down so that we can meet some requirements to have the temperatures coming out of Hells Canyon be what they should be for fish farming. We feel that through our Snake River stewardship program we have been able to mitigate all of that. Right now we have a disagreement between the state of Idaho in the state of Oregon. The snake River is a boundary water.
