Saving Rivers

One of the biggest things that rivers in the West need are more advocates. Specifically, in my hometown of Spokane, one of the things that I am excited to do a little bit more work for and help protect is my backyard river, the Spokane River. It is a river with a storied history of raw sewage and pollution and waste water dumping but in spite of that we have a wild urban river right in our backyard. One of the groups who has helped us improve access, improve water quality, improve the fishery is the Spokane River Forum. You can take a look at them if you are interested in getting involved in a particular region or there may be links to a river wherever you are listening but check out spokaneriver.net One of the fly shops in town just did a massive fundraiser hosting the International Flyfishing Festival and they did a fundraiser to help put in launches on the upper section near the Idaho border. We have very limited access for boats and boating use. That is compounding.
