Larry Amos is the head guide and owner of WinterHawk, an outfitting service Way up in the Flat Tops Wilderness of Colorado. If you hunt with Larry, you find, how do I put this nicely, a veteran guide and owner, who knows everything there is to know about hunting in the mountains of the West. His camp has about 15 huge tents with wood-burning stoves. The stoves come in quite handy when the temperature plunges way below zero. Believe me, I've been there shooting my television show called "Outfitter Showcase".

Anyway, over the past couple of weeks we've had some great chats about lion hunting. In Colorado you can use dogs to tree lions and Larry is very successful at it. So I asked him about his dogs, as in his favorite. "I like those old plot hounds, plots are excellent dogs. Walkers are even better sometimes because a lot of times those Walkers are a little bit smaller than a black and tan or a Redbone or a blue tick and they are fast and those Walkers have keen noses on them. They are good in the snow they are going on dry dirt and if I had to pick one that I had to go with it would have to be Walkers.
