3-23 SS Intern Program

3-23 SS Intern Program

Here’s a question for you. How do we get kids involved in good healthy activities? And by the way I can think of a healthier activity than outdoor sports.  Here’s a thought. Marry outdoor  sports with the allure of becoming a radio personality. I’m David Sparks, this is sportsman’s spotlight, and I’ll put all of this together in just 1 min. Collin MacDonald  works as a newscaster for the new Northwest broadcasters group of radio stations. He’s down in the Astoria Warrenton area of Oregon.  Ingeniously there’s a broadcast that involves fishing broadcasting and learning.  Here he is: “The program is called Harp, the habitat and angling radio program and we work with local students here in the Astoria Warrenton area, all of the area schools are eligible and we have selected a few students, this year we have three females, and we produce shows and vignettes for broadcasts in our stations here.” So, part of the internships are to learn about radio but are they actually learning about sport fishing as well? We actually have been working in conjunction with the already Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and they have a couple of programs they are looking at putting on in the area here and we might have a chance to help with that. That program will be all about fishing, different types of fishing, the history of fishing. We’ve looked at lots of different areas of fishing all the way back to Indians using seine nets and seine fishing here in the Columbia River and we’ve also looked at some modern-day techniques.
