Announcing the CDA Winner of the Experienced Exporter Award

The Colorado Department of Agriculture has announced the winners of the third annual Governor's Award for Ag Exporting. Did you know that in addition to feeding the state and nation, Colorado farm products travel the globe, with Colorado agricultural exports approaching nearly $2 billion annually?

CDA International Marketing Specialist John Addison shares what the panel of judges were looking for when it came to the Experienced Exporter Award

Addison: "We look for company that has been doing business for a long period of time in Colorado, that has generated revenue for Colorado and also that their exporting amount has seen a consistent increase every year."

This year's winner meets those requirements in spades as Addison continues.

Addison: "This year we chose Northern Feed and Beans from Lucerne, Colorado. The owner is Larry Land. He has been exporting for a long time. His company has been around for 61 years. He has been exporting since I think 1951. He does dry beans. He does pinto beans and some yellows. He is a bean dealer."

In addition to the company's longevity and history of exporting, Addison says

Addison: "He gives back to the community. He employs a lot of growers. Farmers that deal directly with him in Colorado. Right now he is exporting 29 percent of all his products are being exported."

This award will be awarded at the Governor's Forum on Agriculture next Wednesday in Denver. Tomorrow, Addison will share more details about the winner of the second export award which is New to Exporting.
