Valuable Life Lessons Learned at County Fairs

I'm watching my Facebook feed and many of my friends and family are currently preparing for or just finishing up their county fair. So many, many valuable lessons are learned like value of practice and hard work, teamwork. Incredible memories are made in the livestock barn as well as the show ring. Today, I have a compilation of several 4-H and FFA youth that I've interviewed in the past about their experience at the fair — be it a junior livestock show or fair.

Steer showman Jon Denny shares what he enjoys and what he has learned

Denny: "I like to work with animals and and it's fun to do. To be calm around animals. To be calmer as a person and nicer to everyone."

Macy Thomas shares what she has gained from participating at the county fair.

Thomas: "I really like showing steers because showing in 4-H in general just teaches you good skills in life: to cooperate with others, to work hard, to get things done on time."

I asked Amelia Suksdorf what her favorite part of showing her heifer was.

Suksdorf: "I like fitting her. That is always fun. It's like getting ready. You know she is all pretty and you did it. It is all great."

And a shout out to all the parents and many supporters who help to make showing a positive experience for our youth.
