Take a Bite Out of Hunger

Second Harvest is a food distribution center that serves more than 250 food pantries in 26 Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho counties. Each month Second Harvest distributes more than 2 million pounds of free food to those in need through these partnerships.

Take a Bite Out of Hunger is Second Harvest's largest fund raising event each year. Second Harvest Community Relations Manger Julie Humphrey shares how much is raised through this event

Humphrey: "Last year in our 21st year we raised the most money we have ever. We like to translate dollars to meals because the public can grasp on to that better. The money we raised at last year's event allowed us to distribute almost a million meals to hungry people out in our area."

Humphrey says that this event in which more than 1,100 people attend. She adds that it wouldn't happen without the l sponsors and volunteers that really help to make a difference.

Humphrey: "We have fabulous partners, and businesses, corporations and individuals who support Take a Bite Out of Hunger as sponsors for that event. We so appreciate our partnership with the food industry and our grocery retailers — they are all very involved in Taking a Bite Out of Hunger. AgriBeef has been wonderful. They have been on board since 2010. They've been a great partner in helping us get beef to folks. That product that is high in protein and that we don't get as much here at the food distribution center. They've been wonderful with their Beef Counts program."
