Denim And Diamonds

Last weekend was the 18th annual Denim & Diamonds — an awards dinner and auction — held in Portland. It is the fundraising event for Oregon AgLink’s Foundation’s programming which includes Cultivating Common Ground — which takes a three tie approach to reaching out and connecting with the urban population: Adopt a Farmer program, Road Crop identification signs and a multi-media campaign.Oregon AgLink Executive Director Geoff Horning shares more about the Denim & Diamonds event
Horning: “It’s the only really big celebration of Oregon agriculture that actually happens in Portland. There are a lot of other great event that celebrate Oregon agriculture in Salem, or Corvallis, in more ag-central places but it really a place where we can celebrate our industry in our state’s biggest urban center.”
They had a record setting crowd this year with more than 550 people attending. Horning says that although they are still crunching the numbers — they anticipate that they have raised more than $100,000 for their programs. Horning adds that their sponsors also played a critical role in their success.
Horning: “We got very fortunate with some amazing sponsors this year — Wilco Corporation. AgriBeef went out of their way to supply the beef for us this year and donated that. So it provided us a significant savings and allowed us to do outreach Portland, Salem, Medford and Bend to the big urban centers.”
