Donating Heifer to Help Ranchers Affected by Carlton Complex Wildfire

Although the Carlton Complex fire happened in July, those affected by the devastation are still trying to cope with their losses. Last Saturday at the Evergreen Exclusive Angus Heifer sale in Yakima. Sackmann Cattle Company donated a heifer with the proceeds going towards the Washington Cattlemen’s Association Wildfire Relief Fund to help those affected ranchers in North Central Washington.
Jeff Sackmann shares why he and wife Jaime decided to donate a heifer to the cause.
Sackmann: “We’ve had a really good year. Obviously the cattle market has never been higher. It is tremendous prices and the cattle business in general is have a wonderful year but some of the folks in our state were having a terrible year. So I had the thought and thought it was something we could do to help.”
The heifer sold first for $6,500 and was purchased by a group of people wanting to support the relief fund. She was then turned and sold again for $5,000. So a total of $11,500 was raised in the effort.

Sackmann: “We have two sales a year with JR Ranch in Othello, Washington. The next sale coming up is on Black Friday — November 28th. Then our spring bull sale going to be on February 21st.”
Sackmann says their focus is to provide solid maternal genetics with moderate framed, easy fleshing cattle that will add value to their customers’ herds.
