Marijuana Warning & Agriculture Supports TPP

Marijuana Warning & Agriculture Supports TPP. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The passage of the Trans Pacific Partnership has been lauded by the ag industry. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack spent some time talking to reporters about the benefits to agriculture.

VILSACK: The twelve countries that are part of this trade agreement represent 40% of the worlds economy and are involved in over 40% of American agricultural export activity to date. This is an opportunity for the United States to continue expanding agricultural exports, providing through this agreement a leveler playing field for American producers. This is a very high value, high standard agreement that will also allow the United States and member states and nations to counter the Chinese influence in the area to make sure that everyone is encouraged to step up their game to the higher standards of the TPP.

Marijuana growers in Oregon are getting a warning. Beware using pesticides on marijuana plants. The Oregon Health Authority is sending an advisory to registered medical marijuana growers around the state and while the advisory says no pesticides have been specifically approved for use on marijuana and the health and safety impacts on cannabis workers have not been evaluated. Marijuana is still illegal at the federal level.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
