Idaho GMO Questions & Apples To China

Idaho GMO Questions & Apples To China plus Safe Trick Or Treating. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

China has once again opened their doors to both Red and Golden Delicious apples and the timing couldn't be better. For months now, USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service or APHIS has been working with their counterpart in China and finally announced the deal on Wednesday. This will definitely help ease the market since there were more Red Delicious this year than expected.

Washington rejected it, now Oregon and Colorado are voting on it and Idaho is in the preliminary stages of educating people on GMO labeling. Jenny Easley, President of GMO Free Idaho says so far they don't have an initiative in the works.

EASLEY: We had spoken to some legislators but didn't find that that was the avenue we were ready to pursue although we did have some support in the legislature. We are a 501c3 and we focus on education and we do presentations around the valley mostly but across Idaho. We participate in public forums and debates to help explain what our position is and what the concerns the No GMO side has.

If your kids are going trick or treating through the neighborhood, an expert has some safety tips for them and for you. Gary Crawford has more.
