Vilsack In Oregon & Getting Work Done plus Wildfire Season. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Oregon Director of Agriculture Katy Coba and local conservation leaders held a press conference on the Regional Conservation Partnership Program following a roundtable with local conservation organizations. Announced in May as part of the 2014 Farm Bill, RCPP marks a new era in conservation in America, going beyond traditional government projects and providing businesses, non-profits, universities, and federal, state and local governments' opportunities to partner with agricultural and conservation groups to invest in innovative conservation projects.

Time is getting short for Congress to finish up some important legislation but while some may get done, others, like immigration, might not. Congressman Doc Hastings says they have been working on it.

HASTINGS: As far as the issues on the border I believe that the House will act again on some legislation prior to the August district work period. There's two weeks for that to go together. There has been a bipartisan group of members that have traveled not only to the Texas border but also to Central America and they are formulating their recommendations right now and I suspect that in the next two weeks that there will be legislation passed out of the House addressing that.

It's been a below average wildfire season nationwide so far this year, but activity is picking up in the Northwest. Rod Bain has more.
