The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is still accepting applications for the 2019 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.  The deadline for submitting all necessary materials is April 12, 2019.  This year the ISDA has been awarded $2.1 million from USDA to award to qualified projects that improve the competitiveness of specialty crops in Idaho.

Specialty crops are defined to include fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture as well as nursery crops including floriculture. Eligible projects are required to benefit more than one organization and solely enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops.

A wide range of specialty crops have had projects awarded in the past including potatoes, wine/table grapes, beans, apples, onions, peaches, cherries and nursery crops. The ISDA has awarded over $10 million in grant funding since 2009.  Projects have created significant positive impact for Idaho specialty crops including increasing sales, raising product knowledge or awareness, increasing sustainability, as well as improving disease control and product quality.
