American Sheep Industry's Legislative Fly-In

The new farm bill seems to be on the minds of everyone whose involved in agriculture in the United States. And the American Sheep Industry Association's President Mike Corn says it's one of their big priorities in 2017.

Corn: "Well, obviously we are looking at the Farm Bill with a more anticipation and positive anticipation, with the new administration change we feel now is the time to make some moves that we haven't been successful on in the past couple of years: trade negotiations, to permanent funding for the research center, wildlife services — a multitude of different angles we are anxious to get into to make a positive change."

Sheep producers will be flocking to Capitol Hill soon to deliver their industry's message to members of Congress and the new Trump administration during their legislative fly-in March 27th thru the 29th in Washington D.C.

As for the future, Corn says it is an exciting time for the U.S. sheep industry.

Corn: "The sheep industry has been in a gradual decline for 50 years. We're only producing 50 percent of what is being consumed in this country. It just seems like the tone in the air is to get us back to more fair trade not so much free trade — I'm all in favor of that. I think that we as producers have an opening with the ethic markets consuming one-third of what's produced in this country — it's endless. I think we've got a lot of blue sky out there."
