How many stories have we done about topics concerned with the aging of the American farmer? The reason that the average age of our agricultural heroes, as in the bumper sticker stating,"No farm, no food", is where it is, and I don't want to say old, but it's because young people are not picking up the banner. Is it because rural life is boring for young people or they just don't want to work that hard?

Then we have politician advocates for improving broadband access, improved medical facilities, and the list goes on. But maybe, improving the quality-of-life in our rural communities deserves some thought. On that note, don't call Alex Holland an economic planner -- instead, she is a "community placemaker" at McClure Engineering, which is one of the organizations working with USDA to bring technical development assistance to rural communities.
