Small Cow Calf Marketing

I ran into Katie Ochsner who is the Commercial Marketing Specialist for the Red Angus Association of America. She helps cow/calf operators market their cattle. “Our marketing team is traveling to a lot of bull sales which we attend all over the United States in order to promote our marketing programs. We generally give a pre-sale speech and then just interact with the commercial producers that are there buying in order to inform them about how they can use red Angus genetics in combination with our marketing programs to bring premiums for their calves.” I asked if she worked with the big operators such as Simplot or Agribeef. “We generally work with individually owned cow/calf operations. We actually have some grids set up specifically for our tagged cattle which would be the Tyson choice plus grade and the greater Omaha grade so we work with smaller producers, not those big groups. But smaller producers can work through some of the grids that we have set up with the packers.” If you want more information go to RedAngus.org.
