Swine Health Information Center Executive Director Dr. Paul Sundberg says research found Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea has the ability to survive in a variety of feed sources from China. including soybean meal, DDGS and lysine. The Swine Health Information Center took the research an additional step. Extensive research modeled these international feed shipments. The Swine Health Information Center research used Seneca Valley Virus, which is in the same family as Foot and Mouth Disease. Seneca Valley Virus can survive in many different feed ingredients, which is concerning. Researchers also evaluated African Swine Fever through surrogate diseases and it didn't survive in any feed ingredients. There is a variety of different responses depending on the characteristic of the virus and its ability to survive that trip.
