SAGE Center

SAGE Center

SAGE Center. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture.

Traveling down Interstate 84 near the Port of Morrow you will come across a slick looking building setting just off the highway with a big sign that says SAGE. Granted there is a lot of sage in the northwest but that's not what this building is all about according to manager, Kalie Davis.

DAVIS: The SAGE Center stands for sustainable agriculture and energy. We have a lot of different things we cover here. We talk about history of the region and that's really important because as you know when settlers first arrived here it was very, very hard to produce crops and so we talk about irrigation coming into the region and changing that dry land from desert into some of the best farmland in the world.

The SAGE Center features many other aspects of the northwest ag industry.

DAVIS: We talk about modern farming and the changes in technology and then we also talk about how much water is used out of the Columbia River for irrigation purposes. We have a wonderful exhibit, the simulated hot air balloon. This actually gives people an aerial tour of Morrow County so you can actually see Morrow County from the air and a lot of the different industries we are talking about.

The center is open seven days a week with varying hours depending on the time of year but is a great place for the whole family to visit with lots of hands on experiences for everyone to learn more about how the food you eat get from the farm to the table.
