Six industrial hemp seed varieties passed the state's THC validation and observation trial. They can now be grown by Colorado Seed Growers Association members for production of CDA Approved Certified Seed.

In 2018, the CDA Approved Certified Hemp seed program trialed eight varieties of hemp across Colorado's diverse growing conditions to validate if they would grow mature plants that test at or below 0.3% THC concentration on a dry weight basis.

Jan Vandenberg President of Mountain Flower Botanicals near Hotchkiss sent her seed through the long certification process.

"I submitted a sample of my new variety "Medicine Mother" to the CDA. They grow it out in 5 locations across the state to be sure that in all these various growing conditions it doesn't go hot. It doesn't have excess levels of THC."

Vandenberg whose company sells a variety of CBD medicinals, says certification is the first in a long process for cultivators who plan to sell Hemp seed commercially.

"So I'm probably going to be talking to people who are interested in using it."

She says it will be 3 years to propagate her seed stock before it is ready for commercial sales.

The 8 seed varieties were grown and tested in the Northeast, Arkansas Valley, Front Range, the San Luis Valley and on the Western Slope. These five locations have distinct differences in daytime and nighttime temperatures, in altitude, length of growing season, and soil types, provide the CDA with a broad representation of Colorado's growing conditions.
