Hi everybody it's time for your Wednesday Agri Beef Minute here on the Ag Information Network of the West-I'm Russell Nemetz.

Backgrounding is very important to a lot of beef cattle operations including Agri Beef. It helps to get cattle started and putting on pounds of beef. This includes weaned and un-weaned cattle ranging from 400 to 650 pounds on average.

Logan Peters is a cattle procurement representative for Agri Beef and tells us more about the importance of backgrounding cattle.

"Backgrounding is a beef production system that involves maximal use of pasture and forages from the time calves are weaned until they are placed in a feedlot. These gains are accomplished as economically as possible by making maximum use of forages such as hay and silage in addition to pasture feeding."
