With your Land and Livestock Report I’m Susan Allen. When considering US timber exports the global market for industrial wood pellets is often overlooked. The UK remains the largest importer of U.S. wood pellets, purchasing 80% of U.S. exports through May 2017. Global demand for industrial wood is set to grow 15% for the next five years and then is projected to stabilize. Increases are expected in south Korea and Japan.

And it’s time to pick 2017 America’s Pig Farmer of the Year. America’s Pig Farmer of the Year helps share the story of pork production and Pork Checkoff spokesperson Cindy Cunningham says a diverse panel will do the judging

Cunningham:Our judges this year include a panel of five member representing Wal-Mart , American Human Assoc. Representing a third generation butcher as well as the education area with a professor from the college of Ag Food and environmental sciences Cal Poly and of course Brad Greenway the 2016 America’s Pig Farmer of the Year.

The judges will evaluate and score a video produced at the finalists’ farms and then conduct in-person interviews with them. The public can view those videos from August 30-September 13 at www.americaspigfarmer.com. The final winner will be announced on October 3.

For more information, producers can contact the Pork Checkoff Service Center. Go to Pork-dot org or call 800-456-PORK.
