NCBA's Annual Legislative Conference Brought Ranchers to Capitol Hill

Last week was the National Cattlemen's Beef Association annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C. In three days ranchers were busy on Capitol Hill meeting with their Senators and members of Congress about the issues that affect them and received updates from administration officials. Idaho Cattle Association Communications Director Britany Hurst attended the conference and she shares that the mood in D.C. for ranchers seemed upbeat this year, especially during the visits with new leaders of several agencies.

Hurst: "We had the opportunity to talk to Secretary Zinke from Interior and with Administrator Pruitt from EPA while we were there. It was a really great chance to give them an idea of the problems we have in the West and the different issues that have come up while they are fresh starting out. I think there is a lot of optimism and hope that there will be some significant changes in both agencies that will make it easier for us to do our jobs."

She continues with more about Secretary Zinke

Hurst: "He gets the West. He understands the sage grouse problems and the Endangered Species Act and how that infiltrated and made it difficult for any ranchers to do their job in the West. That is good and that's really promising."
