I’m Susan Allen reporting for Open Range, are you as fed up as I am about taxes, where does it end! On my latest property tax bill there was an $184 dollar Library tax, multiply that by the residents of my county and that’s a bunch of money for a service that's becoming obsolete and  used by a tiny minority. While I’m on my soap box,  horse owners listen up because after the break I’ll tell you about Oregon Senate Bill 262 in committee that could set standards for other states. If Senate Bill 262 currently in committee passes, horse owners in Oregon will be required to have a license like you do for your vehicle for each animal they own plus there will be additional taxes and fees based on the activities you use your horses for. Owners will be required to register their animals with a state agency and do a notarized transfer of ownership upon each sale. Initially Oregon horse owners will be required to register each animal they currently own for $100 dollars a piece. Oregonians who don’t comply will be slapped a hefty fine, the bill also contains regulations for hauling equines, trailer permits, and the length of time a horse can be hauled. I’ve heard that the Oregon horse community is seething and flooding members of the Environment and Natural Resource committees and State Senators with calls, letter and emails. Below are links plus a list of Committee member’s emails. It is frightening how our rights are being stripped away by big government at an alarming rate.
We the people, meaning yes , you and I, need to rise up from complacency and take a stand.

SB 262 was referred to the Environment & Natural Resources Committee on January 20, 2011. Listed below are their emails: the link to bill http://www.leg.state.or.us/11reg/measures/sb0200.dir/sb0262.intro.html
