Americans have always been entrepreneurs, even when government has made difficult, that was true today as it was for a sixteen year old in 1830 who loved tinkering. I’m Susan Allen, Open Range will return. Up until Samuel Colt carved his first pistol in wood, American armies fought with long, hard to load rifles, meaning Texans were at a huge disadvantage against Indians coming at them horse back at high speeds.  Young Colt came up with the idea of a revolving pistol, but the US Military wanted no part of it. Fate would intervene in the form of Texas Ranger Samuel Walker who ended up with Colts primitive revolver and soon realized its power fighting Indians. While they were accurate only at close range and cylinders were  hard to change, Walker saw  the advantage of  rapid fire. The rangers requested more pistols but  the army refused and six years latter young Samuel Colt was bankrupt, with a  dream and hope, hearing how a small band of men, “Rangers” were protecting settlers in Texas using his revolver. Colt contacted Samuel Walker and invited Walker to help him design the perfect weapon. The  Walker Colt. In the words of author S. C. Gwynee, “the most effective and deadly pieces of technology ever devised” thanks to a nerdy inventor  and a crusty Texas cowboy.  Colts gift to Walker was a rendering of the battle of the Walkers Creek as described by the ranger etched on each Walker Colt barrel, while Samuel Walker made Colt a millionaire.
