A New PR Direction for Ag

The PR game has never been easy for the ag community. In light of other industries we lack the star spokesmen or women able to go one on one with someone like O’Rielly or appear on Good Morning America to set the record straight when Oprah  bashes beef. I’m Susan Allen inviting you to stay tuned for today’s Open Range to hear about a new effort to educate  Joe Public called Farm American that is  delightfully a bit "out of the box." For farming and ranching issues to impact people they need to be where the masses are and for one Barney Visser that means at a Nascar race. It is his hop Farm American will soon morp into a  Nascar team. Interestingly it took Barney Visser, someone with no ties to farming to develop this PR tactic. Visser owns the Furniture Row, a chain of stores that started in cattle country, Denver,  with his very first invention being the bean bag chair. Today one single store has gown into a chain of furniture  businesses. Thus to honor other self  made men and women, the ones who work to put the food on our table Visser is taking agriculture to one of sports largest venues, Nascar. Vissers dream team would include a race car, a traveling display set up at the Fan Zone, farmers and ranchers on hand to meet consumers, farmer promotions at all of Vissers stores and even delivery trucks painted to match the race car. Visser has agreed to invest a couple million towards this promotion with the hopes  agri-business will step up to the table to make this happen as well. I’m not holding my breath but I hope I'm proved wrong. Susan Allen
