Beef Counts
Thanks to Washington and Idaho ranchers, Agri-Beef and Washington Beef, impoverished Northwest families will have meat this winter. I’m Susan Allen stay tuned for Open Range. With all the political ads bombarding us it’s wonderful to report on the goodness in people. Cattlemen in both Washington and Idaho have not only challenged each other, but have stepped up to donate either cattle or cash so those less fortunate can have meat on their table this winter. At a fundraiser for Beef Counts, held recently in Toppenish, Jack Field the executive vice president of the Washington Cattlemen's Association donated steer that was auctioned off eight times for more than ten thousand dollars. Coupled with a recent Washington Beef Counts pokane event and Beef Counts Washington has raised $28,000 towards their goal of $100,000 by December. Washington Beef a will match 50 percent up to $50,000 of the money raised. Beef Counts is a collation of feeders, cattle associations, Washington Beef (a processing plant ) and Second Harvest Inland Northwest, a food bank supplier. Idaho cattlemen aren’t sitting on their laurels, they’ve taken the challenge to out give Washington. So this Friday at the Black Foot Livestock Auction, Cattle producers will host their roll-over auction. Idaho Beef Counts includes Idaho Cattle Association, Cattlewomen’s Association , Idaho Beef Council and Agri-Beef who also matches donations by fifty percent.
