The American Quarter Horse Association by it’s sheer numbers packs a wallop of political clout.  I’m Susan Allen and when I return on today’s Open Range  I’ll tell you how PACs efforts to cultivate stronger relationships with members of Congress helps not only AQHA members but the average horse owner. The AQHA’s PAC is the political action arm of the American Quarter Horse Association so part of our  membership and registration fees go to insure that horse owners have a voice that’s heard in D.C. For example,  PAC  works closely with the America Horse Council so that  horse business’s are included in tax relief packages like the Small Business Jobs and Credit act just signed into law. They make sure we have a seat at the table when the new farm bill is drafted and PAC is part of a collation that supports the Ag Jobs Bill designed to improve job opportunities for aliens because like tree fruit industry, horse and cattle business’s depend on agricultural employees. Since the majority of American Quarter Horse owners are recreational riders PAC aggressively lobbies for our right to trail access, something under siege by environmental groups intent on removing horses and horse packing from the wilderness . Speaking of activist the American Quarter Horse association has their own , known as Q-Contacts and if you visit the AQHA web site you’ll find all  the issues they fight for or against for horse owners.  I’m Susan Allen
