To fully understand President Reagan during his Centennial Celebration visit his California ranch. I’m serious,  I’m Susan Allen,  Open Range will be right back. A tour of President Reagan’s Rancho Del Cielo translated “Ranch in the Heavens”, is bitter sweet.  It provides a look at the private man behind the legend but it’s lalso a heart wrenching reminder to see how far our nations’ regressed.  When Reagan closed the door to his adobe home for the final time he left behind half full jelly bean jar, family photos, riding clothes and his cowboy boots by the bed. Outside his  favorite spots also reveal his heart. Boot Hill is where his pets and ranch animals lie, an animal lover he personally carved each headstone with names like Old Duke. The Tack Barn was the ranch  hub, and it still houses the Montgomery Ward lawn mower with the presidential seal, axes and chainsaw  used to  carved trails where Reagan claimed while  riding “there was “no better way I know of to sort out a problem” . There’s my  favorite spot he called the Psalm 121 Outlook,  offering breathtaking views  where the President would recite to visitors “ I look to the hills from whence cometh my strength? My help comes from the Lord –the Maker of heaven and earth”. Reagan ranch served as his retreat for twenty five years and while was quick to acknowledge it wasn’t heaven, he liked to say it probably had  the same ZIP code. Now owned by the  Young America’s Foundation the Ranch lives on  monument to the life and ideas of Ronald Reagan. Tomorrow more on President Reagan and his horses.
