It’s Open Range Wrap Up, Mountains of weight loss, grazing fees, a new HBO movie and a very old swan. Want to lose weight, move to the mountains. A new study found that lower oxygen at high elevations can induce weight loss. Twenty obese men spent a week at over 8000 feet with unlimited access to food, and no exercise and  lost an average of  3.3 lbs. Back at sea level four weeks latter they were still lighter. What’s “up” with that? Good news for ranchers the federal grazing fee will remain the same as last year a dollar thirty five an animal, heads up though eco-activist like the Center for Biological Diversity aren’t too happy about this! And the remarkable story of TempleGrandin who is brilliant, autistic and responsible for changing the way livestock are treated in stockyards recently aired on HBO. Watch for it on DVD. Claire Danes has received incredible reviews for her role as Temple. Finally From Spokane comes the Disneyesc  tale of Solo the elderly trumpeter swan who has returned to the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge each winter for four decades. The iconic old bird had his heart broken back in 88 when his mate succumbed to a predator. Trumpeter’s mate for life but if a mate’s  killed some will look for  a new companion. To the delight of wildlife biologists Solo is no longer solo,  the old geezer has game, he arrived this winter with a new mate and three cyngnets keeping the brood rounded up by honking like crazy. Isn’t love grand! That’s OpenRange Wrap. Have a great weekend   I’m Susan Allen
