Yesterday we told you about a meeting before Payette County commissioners concerning the recent devastation related to collapsing buildings from snow load. Disposal of hundreds of buildings with all kinds of landfill hazards included in the massive amount of debris, are headed to the Clay Peak landfill in Payette County. One particularly huge challenge regards onions. There are millions that need to be moved, destroyed… Something by March 15. Dr. Bill Barton with Idaho Department of Agriculture is leading an effort to help the onion industry meet compliance with the cull onion rule. “The Idaho State Department of Agriculture has a cull onion rule. the rule states that cull onions or unused onions will be plowed under by 15 March. That is to prevent the introduction or the spread of the onion maggot. I do think under the circumstances there may be possible exceptions or exemptions allowed.

Dale Nolder with the state office of emergency management urged the group of agency managers to move quickly. "These issues need to resolve it as quickly as humanly possible and maybe even faster than that because we have all of the stuff going on in the clock is ticking. We have to get rid of these onions, and now or before that.”
