The feds step in and are getting very proactive regarding disaster assistance.

With dramatic shifts in weather I think we are going to be hearing this kind of thing more and more. I received an email from Candy Moore of the Farm Service Agency here in Boise and it contained a public service announcement regarding a Several types of disaster assistance. I am going to play it now so if you are in these circumstances listen carefully. Hello farmers and ranchers, this is Michael Scuse, USDA Undersecretary for Farm Agricultural Services. if you have had livestock forage losses or other setbacks because of natural disasters since October 2011, you may qualify for financial help from USDA. To date we have helped more than 240,000 producers. If you have not contacted us yet, we need you to register with USDA Farm Service Agency by September 30 or your payment could be affected by congressionally mandated reductions of 7.3%. The congressionally mandated payment reduction affects all of the disaster programs but if you are registered with FSA by September 30 for the livestock forage payment or LFP, you will qualify for the entire amount. You can begin the process by calling your local FSA office or simply going online to register your name at www.FSA.USDA.gov/ disaster – register. Act today.
