Ephemeral gullies

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Idaho has set a July 19, 2019, application deadline for a pilot project to assist landowners in correcting gully erosion through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). This newly announced pilot project is designed to help producers in controlling ephemeral gully erosion on Highly Erodible Land (HEL). "Ephemeral gullies can impede land productivity," said Curtis Elke, NRCS State Conservationist for Idaho. "Fixing them is a better long-term solution than discing them, because stopping these gullies through conservation practices keeps top soil on the farm."

Applications for this pilot project will be accepted on a continuing basis. However, only applications received by July 19 will be considered during this particular funding cycle. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed and considered for subsequent cycles.

EQIP helps agricultural producers complete resource conservation projects and make conservation-related management changes on their farms or ranches.  Conservation program participation is voluntary and helps private landowners and operators defray the costs of installing conservation practices.

For more information on these programs as well as eligibility requirements, stop by your local USDA service center or visit NRCS online at http://www.id.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/.
