The importance and the meaning of Idaho agriculture to Idaho. Following a celebration of National Ag day a little while back I had a chat with a very prideful spokesperson for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture Chanel Tewalt. talked about Idaho's agricultural producers and discussed a little bit of their economic impact on our state, their productivity and how they truly feed the world.

“So to put that in perspective in 1940 the average farmer said and supplied about 15 people. What we're going to do is show how many people a farmer feeds today and it's 165 people which is just phenomenal. So the average American farmers feed one hundred sixty five people every year. You see that on the economic side as well. I mean agriculture and food processing in Idaho equate to 16 billion dollars every year and receipts they together are our biggest industry in the state they account for 20 percent of every sale in the state agricultural food processing are tremendously important and they are important because we have phenomenal producers. The old bumper sticker. No farm no food has never been more abundantly clear. It's an economic engine but it's also what puts three meals on our plates every day.”
