While Idaho and the rest of the nation’s wheat farmers get the last of the 2018 crop in, American Farm Bureau Federation presidents had a meeting withVP Mike Pence. American farmers face an economic challenge this harvest. Here’s American Farm Bureau Federation Pres., Zippy Duvall: “America is experiencing a great economic boom where our farmers and ranchers are being left behind. We are experiencing the worst farm economy in 12 years. That is why it is important for our farmers to be at the table, to discuss with the vice president of the United States how their decisions are affecting farmers and ranchers across this country.” This past week state farm bureau presidents met with Pres. Trump and VP Pence in the West Wing to express concerns over trade tariffs that are hurting farmers and ranchers. here is president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau Scott Vanderwal: “I told them about the lack of certainty going forward, especially young farmers who don’t have as much capital built up that maybe haven’t experienced the tough times that we are in. When we get into harvest and the combines are rolling then we take it to the elevator and the check comes for a lesser amount than we told the banker that it was going to be, that’s going to be a problem for some folks.” The Farm Bureau president said that Mr. Trump expressed concern and embraced the leaders support of agriculture.
