"We are a third-generation dairy farm both on my mother’s side and my father’s side. They immigrated from the Netherlands right after World War II.” Bernie Tuneson is a descendent of Dutch immigrants who first located in Orange County, California. In the year 2000, Bernie and his family loaded up their truck and left California for Canyon County, Idaho. "Idaho has great infrastructure for dairies. It is quite complex. You obviously need manufacturing plants that process the milk, grain facilities, rails to bring you grain from the Midwest and of course alfalfa hay which is some of the best in the world with this perfect climate and abundant water. When I drove by Lake Lowell I remember thinking, wow, we can have this beautiful dairy three or 4 miles from Lake Lowell. We love to water ski and water sports, so that was a real drawing card for us. We love the Treasure Valley. It’s a great place to live and we feel very fortunate being here. Running these dairies, there is so much repair, so much maintenance, so much support is needed, not only from the industrial but from the agricultural side. We have two farm families. They do our farming, they do our harvesting and it has just been a great relationship with them.
