Quagga Disaster

Idaho officials are extremely concerned about the discovery of quagga mussels in Montana. I have been reporting on the quagga disaster for years and now these mussels have been found into reservoirs in Montana. Obviously, all of us in Idaho and throughout the Northwest are on red alert, speaking of which I talked to Idaho Farm Bureau reporter Jake Putnam. "I know and I don't know they have inspection stations for boats passing through and if they see anything suspicious they will decontaminate the boat through hot washing or whatever. Apparently the problem is getting worse. It certainly is. We had a meeting with the director of the Idaho Farm Bureau a couple of weeks ago and this invasive mussel found in Montana really has everyone in Idaho on red alert. One of the things that we heard is that the argument can be made that this is a huge threat to our endangered species. This mussel, this invasive species, threatens endangered species. This is an environmental red alert that is going on in Idaho and we are just on it and very concerned. One of the scary things is that we are 50 miles from having these things flow into the Columbia River and once that happens, how are we going to stop them. So this is a total environmental disaster on the come.
