With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Many in the Washington tree fruit industry will be breaking out their clubs between cherry and apple harvests ...

GOLF SWING = 1 ... "thwack!"

... When golfers tee off at the 26th Annual Washington State Tree Fruit Association golf tournament at the Highland Golf Course in East Wenatchee on August 6th ...

Devaney ... "This is an annual event that we do for the tree fruit industry and our friends to raise money for scholarships in honor of past tree fruit industry leaders. It's usually a really fun day ... with good weather."

And if you're interested, Tree Fruit Association president Jon DeVaney says there's still room ...

Devaney ... "We do still have opportunities for foursomes if people would like to sign up. It's just $600 for a foursome which includes dinner. You can also still sponsor if you want to put your business in front of a lot of growers and industry leaders. And, you can do either by calling our office or going to our website."

But, DeVaney says there is a foursome limit ...

Devaney ... "We're looking for probably 25 because we like to keep the pace moving along nicely. We don't like to overcrowd the course."

DeVaney says the money helps fund those scholarships ...

Devaney ... "A lot of these were established as memorial scholarships, you know, at the time of the person's passing. And, so this is a means of adding to those funds to make sure that they remain self-sustaining."

This year's honorees are Gerald Nolan, Melvin Crowder, Jim Matson, Delmar Smith and others.
