With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Pear lovers around the world are coming together this weekend to celebrate the delicious tree fruit on World Pear Day...

STEPHENSON ... "So, the World Pear Day came out of our love National Pear Month which is the month of December as recognized by the USDA. We're up to our 14th year of that, but we wanted to cast that a little farther and created World Pear Day."

Kathy Stephenson, with Pear Bureau Northwest, says it's a great way for northwest pear growers, and everyone else in the industry, to promote the fruits of their labors...

STEPHENSON ... "You know, the Pear Bureau works with marketing representatives across the world so we wanted a way to make a connection with each of those groups that serves our growers around the world. So, the best way to do that was to create a single day where we celebrate pears."

And, Stephenson says World Pear Day touches pear lovers everywhere ...

STEPHENSON ... "What's kind of different about it for us is that we travel around the world, kind of like Santa Claus would. We basically start in New Zealand at 2:00pm on the 30th of November, which is Pacific Coast time, it would be about 5:00pm their time, and we start there and we travel through New Zealand, through countries as we go across the globe ending up in Oregon and Washington on December 1st."

Tune in tomorrow to find out more about this social media trip that will touch base with pear lovers in every time zone around the world starting this Friday.
