With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. May is
National Strawberry Month and that means strawberry harvest time is right around the corner. So, if you're looking for a summer job, Biringer Farms in Arlington has a way of making the job it a little easier on your knees, and a little less back-breaking ...
BIRINGER ... "We're the only one's that have, we call them picking machines, but they're picking platforms and they, people lay down and pick so it's the only place you can go to work and lay down on the job."
Dianna Biringer says there's room for plenty of pickers ...
BIRINGER ... "You can put 24 on each machine. We have two machines. And, they're self-propelled and the Farmer built them back in '62 and we're still using them today. And, now we have ten, I believe ten, individual picking platforms that an individual lays down on and picks."
Dianna says the picking platforms allow you to move at your own pace ...
BIRINGER ... "And they steer it with their feet and, individually, they just go down the row and pick. And, they have solar roof on them and that's our newest thing. We had them last year."
She says they've offered great opportunities for area kids for decades ...
BIRINGER ... "We've hired hundreds and hundreds of kids over the years. And so, we've provided a lot of work for people in the community, especially in Marysville."
Dianna says you can go to the Biringer Farms website to apply for hourly and picker jobs she expects to start in early June.
