Winter Weather Outlook Pt 1
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. As we slowly move into the Autumn season, waiting swap out our summer wardrobe for our layered winter garb, many are asking, what are we in for weather-wise in the months ahead.
Washington State Climatologist, Nick Bond expects that after what he describes as a unique weather year, we're likely to be following the recent trend...
NICK BOND ... "Each year is unique and each event, you know, kind of plays out differently, but right now it looks like we're going to have a decent Winter and that, for most agricultural interests, that's great having that water supply to get us through the dry season."
But, Bond says not quite as bad as last winter ...
NICK BOND ... "Probably not as wet. But, I think there'll be at least decent amounts of precipitation and kind of near-normal temperatures. And so, I think it looks pretty favorable. Obviously, for other parts of the state, you know Yakima Valley especially, it's the mountain snowpack and that effective reservoir that represents is really key. And, you know, right now I have to be guardedly optimistic."
Bond doesn't expect to see anything like the winter of 2014-15 when it was unseasonably warm and dry and the mountain snowpack was at near record lows.
