With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. South Seattle College's Northwest Wine Academy is the first teaching winery in the Puget Sound region. It's a certificate program designed for students just getting a start in the wine industry and for professionals who want to enhance their skills in winemaking, wine marketing and sales, or food and wine pairing.

Student Brandon Poettiger says they are proud of their facility and guests are welcome to come check it out ...

BRANDON POETTIGER ... "Yeah this is the tasting room and so we do tastings Monday, Wednesday, Friday ... complimentary, always! Our wines are, I think, very affordable. Our most expensive wine is $19. We run a range of Roses to Whites, we've done desert wines before. We get all of our grapes donated so everything is, we're kind of at the mercy of the vineyard or the producer who says 'hey I've got an extra ton of 'this thing,' do you want it? Here you go'."

And, Poettiger says everything is done by students ..

BRANDON POETTIGER ... "And it's great to say, yeah we're fully student operated, like from the labeling to the marketing to working and running the tasting room, to making the wines and so you have a lot of pride behind like yes we're a student run winery, but we win awards with our wines ... which is awesome!"

And the wine they create?

BRANDON POETTIGER ... "our wines are delicious ... laughter ... I love our wine"

The Northwest Wine Academy will hold its Fall Wine Release next month the weekend of November 17, 18, and 19th.
