Cherry Institute

Cherry Institute

Register for Cherry Institute. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

It's a ways off but never to early to consider registering for the annual Cherry Institute. BJ Thurlby, President of NW Cherries talks about the Institute.

THURLBY: Cherry Institute is a grower education day that the NW Cherry Growers put on every year. Attendance is usually between five and six hundred growers and then we have a lunch that's part of your pre-registration package. We've got a big day planned for January 15th.

He says there will be a lot of the industry leaders speaking this year.

THURLBY: Dr. Matt Whiting is going to give us an update on horticulture in the cherry orchard which is always interesting. We've got some talks relative to a little cherry virus which is one of the, I think, one of the key issues growers are facing right now in the orchards throughout the whole northwest it's something that's creeping up on us and the industry's addressing it and growers need to hear what's going on there.

With the holidays coming up it might be good to get yourself preregistered if you are planning to attend.

THURLBY: My recommendation to cherry growers is to register early. There's actually a discount for growers that register early and if they want to register they can give us a call here at the Fruit Commission and ask for Kathy. It's a great idea and it saves you four or five bucks and it gives us an idea certainly how many people are going to be there and just helps us in the planning overall.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
