Washington Apple Education Foundation. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

There are a lot of meetings going on at this time of year and during this years annual Tree Fruit Association meeting you'll once again have the opportunity to help out the Washington Apple Education Foundation and maybe win a great prize. Jennifer Witherbee is the executive director for WAEF.

WITHERBEE: We are excited that lot of people will be coming by our booth to pick up their raffle tickets for the REARS sprayer that's been so generously donated by the Rear family for the last 21 years and then that also gives us a chance to visit with people about what's going on with the foundation.

WAEF's mission is to impact lives through access to educational opportunities.

WITHERBEE: We're growing and we're able to assist more students attend college but also are able to assist them more to succeed at college and prepare for getting into the working world. For most of us you really only know about those things that you've been exposed to and so what we've been doing with our students is just helping them gain more exposure to the types of careers out there, maybe some of the things they're not necessarily family with.

She says 2015 has been a good year.

WITHERBEE: We have 225 students this year, substantially more than any other year in the past and we awarded students with over $850-thousand dollars in scholarship support this year.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
