Immigration Webinar

Immigration Webinar. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

A lot is happening with immigration and there are a lot of questions about what to expect. Dan Fazio with Washington Farm Labor Association says they have been trying to stay on top of the situation and have an upcoming webinar to help answer some of those questions.

FAZIO: The President's recent executive actions from last November have done nothing really to ease the labor shortage, and in fact some folks are arguing that it will most likely exacerbate the shortage. The President's executive actions are the subject of a live webinar that we are conducting on Thursday, March 12. It's a one-hour webinar and people can attend from either 8 am to 9:00 am or 11 am until noon.

There are two programs that will be discussed.

FAZIO: They're called DACA 2.0 and DAPA. DACA stands for "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals." This is a program for people who came here prior to their 16th birthday. The next program, DAPA, stands for Deferred Action for Parents of Americans. This group is people who came here and had children. The children are American citizens, but many of the parents are not.

If you want to take part in this important webinar, contact WAFLA.org.

FAZIO: It's a big mess for employers and so while WAFLA is working to obtain a safe harbor for employers who assist workers in applying for the executive order programs, Tom Roach is going to explain the steps that employers need to take to protect themselves against a charge of continuing to employ a person who is not work authorized.
