03/17/05 The Asian rounds for NW Cherries, Finale

While the first leg of Northwest Cherries' officials most recent Asian visit was in new market South Korea, the final week and a half will include stops in very prominent markets. One of those is Taiwan. And it is there that B.J. Thurlby and other representatives of Northwest Cherries will craft the latest version of an annual Asian promotion. THURLBY: And we're going to be sitting down with a record production company and working again to look at ways we can utilize the medium of television and M.T.V. to stimulate the media and get them interested in our product like we've done annually. And that usually means enlisting the aid of an Asian pop star to perform in an M.T.V. style video centered on cherries. From there it is off to Japan and more development of promotions for that market. Thurlby says marketing will be similar to that in other nations, where health is the focus, perhaps capitalizing on a recent European study that eating cherries may be beneficial in controlling diabetes. THURBLY: We've got another health message strategy we've got going in Japan. Overall, the Japanese are more conscious about food safety then most countries, and so we're focusing on the safety issues and the stringent requirements that our industry goes through to put a product into a package and get it over to Japan.
