The World Health Organization says the food industry must stop dosing healthy livestock with antibiotics.

For decades animals' food and drinking water have often been spiked with medications aimed at boosting growth and preventing disease. But the WHO says that practice can provide the necessary spark for antibiotic resistance that endangers human health.

Lance Fox is a Veterinarian – and says he supports the use of antibiotics...

Recently - there are concerns that the overuse of those antibiotics could lead to super bugs bacteria that would become antibiotic resistant in humans.

Fox believes the debate is not following the science that shows the need for antibiotic use.

and he says, consumers have begun calling for antibiotic free meats and other food products in the name of food safety. According to Fox - that presents a challenge.

The WHO is calling for farmers to wait until animals are medically diagnosed with a problem before administering antibiotics.
