It's easy to get caught up in what is right in front of you. Anyone in Agriculture knows, it's already more than a full time job. However, experts say, farmers and ranchers need to start paying attention to much more.

Tom Sleight is with the U.S. Grains Council, and says farmers and ranchers are now working in a global market, and foreign policy impacts trade policy. He says those of us in Agriculture need to track what’s going on around the world.

"whatever happens in the world can effect them every singe day, from a missle landing in the sea of japan to what is happening with political turmoil in Brazil. All these things come together to have an impact on trading and price, so farmers need to track this. We always say, US farmers are some of the most international business people in the world because of the global impact they have."

And he says, if you have questions about the global market, the U.S. Grains Council is a good place to start as they are helping farmers enhance trade and learn more about foreign policy…

"We are the ones going out there and telling farmers what is going on in a global market, and so the council is going to keep doing that and we are ramping things up. Its a constant process of updating them on what is happening around the world and how it effects them."
