Changing Tone and Improving Respect

Changing Tone and Improving Respect

I usually focus on agricultural stories to report on but yesterday while in a press conference call with Washington state Congressman Dan Newhouse he discussed the the mood on Capitol Hill with the recent shooting of five people at the Republican baseball practice that happened earlier in the week. In addition to the concern for and support of those who are in the hospital, he shared

Newhouse: "We had a meeting yesterday of all the members of the House — all members came together in the Capitol Auditorium. There were several comments from different members about how we can be — if people look to U.S. Congress as how we treat each other as Americans. If we can be better examples of how best to do that. We have to be very mindful of the tone we take with one other. We can disagree and stand up strongly for those things we believe in but we have to be sure we do that in as respectful of a way as possible. I see that as real positive thing that may come out of this. We certainly are Republican, Democrat or Independent — the bottom line is we are all Americans and we are all working as hard as we can to improve things for people in this country. If we can just keep that in mind — unfortunately it takes something like this to remind us of that responsibility —- I see that as a positive coming out of this."
